FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
[Raleigh, NC] – March 1, 2021- In spite of the challenging year, Pretty In Pink Foundation is continuing its track record of helping more and more patients every year. In 2020, 255 uninsured and under-insured breast cancer patients across North Carolina received funds from Pretty In Pink to pay for surgery, chemotherapy administration, and radiation treatment. This small non-profit organization, even during this year of COVID-19 and increased demand for services, has not turned away a single qualified applicant.
“Thanks to our generous sponsors and donors, we were able to help nearly 40 percent more Champions in 2020 compared to 2019,” said Becky Horn, Executive Director of Pretty In Pink Foundation. “The support that we receive is extremely important so we can continue helping North Carolina breast cancer patients, who need our help now more than ever.”
Pretty In Pink reaches a wide-range of Champions across the entire state of North Carolina. In 2020, they served Champions in 62 counties, who range in age from 25 to 81 years old. Eighty-four percent of Champions in 2020 were under-insured, while 16% were uninsured.
Kaitlyn Turner, who lives in Matthews, is one of the Champions who received help last year. The 27-year-old turned to Pretty In Pink as she began the battle for her life.
“Pretty In Pink has really helped me,” said Kaitlyn. “When I was diagnosed, I had to quit my two jobs. I moved to be with family while I went through this process. I’m just so incredibly thankful for this extra financial help. Thanks to Pretty In Pink—I have no medical debt.”
